MINI Cooper S Checkmate

Whitby, ON, August 18, 2005…MINI Canada enhances its 2006 model line up with new packages and optional features, including most notably a new factory-installed John Cooper Works package and new ‘Checkmate’ and ‘Quicksilver’ packages. In addition, MINI Canada holds the line on 2006 MSRP for the MINI Cooper Classic, with a modest $100 increase on all other models.

John Cooper Works Kit Now Factory-Installed

MINI has now made the popular John Cooper Works performance upgrade available as a 2006 factory-installed option on the MINI Cooper S. In addition to the engine performance upgrade which increases output to 208 horsepower and 180 lbs-ft of torque, the factory installation adds the John Cooper Works sport brake kit with 16″ brake discs and a limited-slip differential. The new package will retail for $5900. MINI Canada will continue to offer the dealer-installed John Cooper Works engine performance kit along with the expanded line of John Cooper Works tuner accessories.

‘Checkmate’ and ‘Quicksilver’ Packages Highlight New 2006 Options

MINI Canada now offers even more ways for owners to individualize their MINI for 2006. Starting with the MINI Cooper S hatchback models, the new ‘Checkmate’ Package, priced at $2350, features an exclusive exterior appearance with special Checkmate side decals, Silver Roof, Mirror Caps and Bonnet stripes combined with two exclusive new colors: Space Blue and Royal Grey. The unique Checkmate interior offers uniquely patterned cloth/leather sport seats, leather wrapped wheel and a high-gloss, specially patterned dash panel. An exclusive 17-inch Flame Spoke performance wheel and tire package, Dynamic Stability Control and front and rear fog lamps round out the package’s sporty orientation.

New for 2006 on MINI Cooper hatchback models, the ‘Quicksilver’ Package provides an exterior motif similar to the Checkmate package, with the stunning combination of Silver Roof, Silver Mirror caps and Bonnet Stripes combined with three new exclusive colors: Space Blue, Royal Grey and Solar Red. The Quicksilver Package retails for $200 and is only available in combination with the Sport Package.

MINI Canada also expands its line of optional equipment for 2006 with new English Leather upholstery for the Cooper S and a new 16″ Bridge Spoke alloy wheel in the MINI Cooper Sport Package.

2006 Pricing

As the definitive premium small car, MINI offers an ideal combination of value, fun and performance. With a modest price increase of only $100 on all Cooper, Cooper S and Convertible models, which also benefit from the addition of the Multifunction Steering Wheel as standard equipment, and MINI Cooper Classic pricing unchanged from 2005, along with offering more options and features, MINI increases the value equation for 2006.

The 2006 MINI Cooper Classic holds at $23,500, while the MINI Cooper, MINI Cooper S and the MINI Cooper Convertible and MINI Cooper S Convertible increase slightly to $25,900, $30,600, $31,600 and $36,600 respectively.

Select package and option prices have been incrementally adjusted for some variants for 2006, but reflect additional features; the Premium Package has increased by only $40 on Cooper and Cooper S variants and $100 on Convertible models, however, now includes Auto Dimming interior mirror and Rain Sensor with Automatic Headlights. The Sport Package has increased by $190 on Cooper and Cooper S hatchback, but now includes an Anthracite Roofliner, and remains unchanged for Convertible models.

Production of 2006 MINI models starts in September, arriving in Canadian MINI showrooms as early as October.
