Spinners are Yesterday’s News

Okay, I’ll admit that I’m not completely up-to-date on the latest aftermarket accessories, but when I got a link to these DUB PimpStar wheels e-mailed to me today, I had to share it. The wheels were on display at SEMA and are now on sale.
“The PimpStar is a huge leap forward in the evolution of the wheel. With the PimpStar’s built-in full color LED lights, microprocessor and wireless modem, you can display virtually any image, including text, graphics, logos, and even digital photos!”
Your basic run of the mill gaudy spinners have nothing on these. While the technology behind them is definitely interesting, such as the editing and upload pictures to the wheels while driving, the basic question remains… “Why?”
I understand there is a market for these, and they will no doubt sell well. But at what point does it become too much? How about the entire side of the car with scrolling neon? Or replacing your back window with an LCD?
I can’t imagine these wheels being street legal in Canada. Laws concerning neon lights on cars are governed by provincial traffic acts, and they differ from province to province on what is legal. The one thing all provinces have in common though is that flashing lights are not allowed, which I imagine these rims would fall under.
Make sure to check out the video of the wheels in action.
