TVR to Close Their Blackpool Plant

TVR

TVR, known for building cars with wildly radical designs and performance, reported on Monday that they would be closing down their Blackpool plant in England. They announced this to the Transport and General Workers Union (a British auto workers union) saying that the plant would be shut down within the next six months, resulting in the loss of 260 jobs.

A TVR spokesman told the BBC, “This has been on the cards for quite a while,” and that, “Ideally we would stay around here because that is where the trained people are but we cannot guarantee it.” TVR says that this is not the end of the company and that they will be continuing production, but for the moment where that will take place is up in the air.

Their Russian owner, Nikolai Smolensky, had his representative also note that he was in for the long term, so this optimistically means TVR intends to continue as a staple of the high performance car market, in one form or another.
