Delphi vs. UAW: Round 2

Delphi has not yet sought to block any of its unions from striking – but its customers have. GM would be the most damaged by a work stoppage at Delphi, but it isn’t the only one who will be affected by a strike. International, the DaimlerChrysler group (including Mercedes’ Alabama plant), Honda, and Toyota would also feel the pinch if Delphi shut down its operations. International filed on Wednesday to ask Judge Drain to bar the union from striking.

Delphi has maintained that it will continue to talk with the unions even if the ruling is in their favor, as long as the talks continue to be productive. Not all unions are happy with this – the IUE Communications Workers of American union, which contains 8,500 workers at Delphi, feels that it has been getting the short end of the stick – they have not been offered many of the proposals that the UAW was.

The unions and Delphi have agreed to extend the talks until May 24 or 26.
