Chevy green-lights Camaro

Chevy Camaro New Concept 2009

Well, whaddya know. With the muscle car segment in full bloom, with contributions from Ford (Shelby too), and the recently announced Challenger, Chevrolet just couldn’t resist the temptation to build the Camaro. So, earlier this week, after months and months of letters, positive forum posts, and even a couple of certified cheques in the mail from zealous buyers, GM made it official, the Camaro is 100% green.

Like the other modernized Pony cars, Chevrolet has promised to keep the production car as close to the concept as possible, complete with its sharp-angled look, recessed headlamps and menacing grille. It’s sure to look good on any street corner…

But, it’ll be a little while before we see any Camaros on the street though. Chevrolet has announced that the first Camaros will roll off the line in 2008 as 2009 model year products. When it becomes available, it can be had with V6 and V8 power, with automatic or manual, giving buyers more choice over the hard-core V8-manual Challenger. However, the car will have an independent rear suspension for better handling and improved ride quality, plus a usefully long wheelbase for rear-seat legroom.
