Maserati To Switch Up Sports Car Lineup With Up To Three New Cars
For ages now, we’ve been seeing spy shots of some very bulky vehicles that have been addressed as Maseratis. It’s been long known that the Italian sports car brand has been hard at work to develop a new sports car, but it turns out that is not all that’s slated for production.
Current information suggests that the brand is currently working on up to three brand new vehicles, some of which might surprise (and hopefully delight).
The first is the replacement for the Coupe/Gran Sport. Judging by the spy photos, it appears that Maserati will be shying away from the current car’s design, which is low, sleek and elegant, and going for something that’s more like a two-door sedan. Insiders say it will essentially be a 2+2 grand touring car, albeit with a slightly more aggressive nose.
The second car would be a soft-top two-seater sports car to replace the Spyder.
The third one, which was unexpected, is a four-seater (2+2) folding hardtop convertible. This would be a unique vehicle, even in the exotic segment as the nearest four-seat hardtop convertible would be several sizes smaller, and two and a half to three times cheaper!
The final car isn’t a new car, rather a remake of the current Quattroporte. It has been suggested on many occasions that Maserati is facing a redesign of its Quattroporte to accommodate a proper automatic transmission. Currently, the six-speed sequential manual gearbox is mounted at the rear of the vehicle. This would need to be changed to a more conventional layout to adapt an automatic.
