Ford Wins European Car of the Year with… a Minivan

Ford has just won the title of 2007 European Car of the Year. Just. It beat out the Opel Corsa, the second-place rival by three points, Citroen C4 Picasso, and even the Honda Civic Hatchback - all of which were expected to win. But the really odd thing is that the S-Max isn’t like any of these other vehicles. It’s not a hatchback, and it’s certainly not small. Though the name doesn’t give very much away about the vehicle, the S-Max is a full-fledged minivan.

The S-Max was launched last year as a twin to Ford’s Galaxy. Ford offered up two variants, the Galaxy being the more conventional of the two. It figured that there might be a couple of people who wanted a high-performance, sporty vehicle that could carry a few extra passengers without sacrificing the needs of the drivers. It appears that almost the entire panel (57/58) think it’s a good idea. They must all be parents…
