Chevy Aveo to Share Global GM-Europe Platform

In the same way that Ford recently announced that it would be making better use of the “C1″ global platform that’s currently used to underpin everything from European-model Fords, to Mazdas, Volvos and Land Rovers, General Motors is reportedly thinking about pulling a similar move for its smallest vehicle platform, Gamma. In the name of cost-saving (and not being behind the times), the next-generation Gamma platform will be used to anchor the European-market Opel/Vauxhall Corsa and its North American kin, the Chevrolet Aveo.
That’s very good news, as the current Aveo is, how should we say, rather lacking in the cornering department. It might be a while before we see anything though, as the Aveo was heavily revised for North America as an ‘07 model year product, and the Corsa was launched earlier this year (and nearly won ECOTY). The platform would be global, much like the Epsilon, which would allow cars to be built all across this big ‘ol planet of ours.
