Mitsubishi Is Filling Its Trophy Cabinet With iCar

Mitsubishi iCar

Look over there! Is it an alien? Is it a concept car? Is it a four-door smart fortwo? No, it’s the Mitsubishi i (or iCar, depending on where you’re from), and it’s just been voted 2007 Car of the Year by the Automotive Researchers’ & Journalists’ Conference of Japan (RJC). There’s plenty of good reason for this car’s victory over any other car that was released in the past twelve months: it’s the only real car that presents true forward thinking. Aside from the novel Daihatsu Copen, what other kei car has gone global with as much success? And what other kei car is rear engined?

And speaking of awards, the i also won the Good Design Grand Prize award from the Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization.
