BMW RoadPreview: Eyes on the Road, Hands on the Steering Wheel
Back in July, BMW announced a whole bunch of different driver assistance systems which sought to make life a little easier for drivers by helping them keep an extra eye on the world around them. BMW seems to be moving forward on one particular system, the RoadPreview.
Via the HUD display, the system is capable of displaying a little warning accompanied by a symbol and distance gauge to inform the driver of sharp corners or bends in the road ahead. Of course, the car can’t physically see and magically determine when and where a corner is; it uses the navigation system. The goal is to make you feel a little more comfortable when you’re careening down roads you’re not familiar with. Think of it as a rally co-driver without the oddly-written pace notes.
