TVR’s Solution: Bodies by Bertone; Engines by Ricardo
Monday, October 23rd, 2006After just a couple days, TVR has come up with a solution to its assembly woes, which we reported on. Reportedly, the British firm has selected assembly specialist Bertone to build the bodies of the Tuscan, Tuscan convertible and the Sagaris. Bertone could easily take on the project as its factory floors are now free from the Mini Cooper Works GP and the previous Opel Astra Coupe and Convertible.
But what about the engines? Well, it appears that TVR’s going to be outsourcing the production of them too. For quite some time now, TVR has been working with British engineering consultants Ricardo to re-work their inline-six engines to comply with the forthcoming emissions standards. Ricardo has now taken on the duty of building the engines for TVR. Ricardo will also be warranting the engines. So, the car gets a different warrantee than the powertrain, which will be honoured by a different company.
It all sounds confusing, but it’ll work out for the better. Hopefully.
